Canada's #1 Student Athlete
Development Program Makes NBA History!
The Grassroots family and basketball fans across the globe have been riveted to their TVs, internet feeds, newspaper articles, and just about every social media outlet reporting on basketball this year in order to keep up with Grassroots alumni players such as Tristan Thompson and Cory Joseph. On June 23, 2011, the former Grassroots Canada standouts made Canadian basketball history by both being selected in the first round of the NBA draft lottery. Tristan Thompson, of Brampton, ON, was selected 4th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers, who utilized their 2nd pick to draft Thompson right after Kyrie Irving. Cory Joseph, of Pickering, ON, was selected 29th overall by the San Antonio Spurs, who used their first pick to draft Joseph. A truly momentous occasion for both Grassroots Canada Basketball and Canadian basketball growth in general, this is the first time 2 Canadians have been drafted in the first round! Congratulations to Tristan, Cory, their families and everyone who has been a part of these young mens' progress over the years.
